Founded in the spring of 2012, the College of Mixology was established on a foundation of historical teaching methods which date as far back as the 1800’s. Our program was designed to give students the opportunity to experience an apprenticeship style program; which is a more historically accurate way to train Bartenders, instead of one based on a seminar type framework. With a primary focus on quality over quantity; our curriculum is delivered to a limited number of students per semester to allow for a concentrated delivery from start to finish. We are only one of few schools in the world who focus on teaching students lost arts such as making bitters, syrups, and infused spirits; and we are the only Bartending School in North America that teaches its students how to flavour profile in order to innovate new cocktails. We are also proud to boast that a large section of our program is dedicated to teaching students form and technique, among them are: the proper way to hold and use a bar spoon, how to hold and shake a Boston shaker, how to hold and fill a jigger. Sure these things sound rather simple, but we also teach our students form, and that’s what set us apart from our competitors. Through our smaller class sizes, we have more time to individually focus on each student in training them develop a fluid motion that is not evident in amateur Bartenders or those trained in a week.
Our mission is to develop exceptional professionals who seek to pursue Mixology as a chosen profession. To reach this goal, our students are provided not only with some of the most in-depth education available today, but the trade tools to do it also. Each of our students finishes the course with a complete set of quality tools, two textbooks and a collection of fifteen Bartending books.
Ultimately, the secret to crafting perfect cocktails is influence, not only in the execution of a recipe but also in the intention, interaction, and communication. Cocktail making becomes art when an understanding of theoretical knowledge becomes intertwined with life experience. To master this, as in everything one does in life, it must be done well and to the fullest.
